What Is a Hydromassage?

A hydromassage, also called a hydrotherapy massage, is a massage technique that uses water pressure to gently massage the skin. Hydromassage can be completed in one of two ways:

Wet Hydromassage

This kind of massage involves using jets to deliver targeted pressure to the skin. To complete a wet hydromassage, clients must undress and sit in a tub of water. Then, jets are turned on to achieve muscle tension relief. Clients receive privacy during their appointments to increase relaxation.

Dry Hydromassage

This type of hydromassage uses a bed device to massage skin without getting it wet. The jets are designed to apply pressure through a waterproof cover, keeping the client dry throughout the session. During the massage, clients may keep their clothes on.

Water pressure and temperature can change throughout a session, delivering varying levels of strength. Jets can also move throughout treatment to reach different areas of the body. Clients can typically control these features during their massage. Hydromassages work to provide benefits similar to those of traditional massages. They can promote the same sense of relaxation, which helps decrease stress. Hydromassages can also relieve muscle tension, potentially eliminating associated aches and pains.

Additionally, people who frequently work out can benefit from having a hydromassage after workout sessions. Dry hydromassages can also be an ideal alternative to traditional massages, allowing for minimal contact and the possibility of remaining fully clothed during the appointment.

Throughout our program, students can learn about the basics of physiology and anatomy, as well as more advanced concepts like musculoskeletal systems. Students are also required to complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and HIV-AIDS courses during their program.

Massage Technician Courses at The Praxis Institute

The best way for students to learn about hydromassage and other massage therapy techniques is through hands-on learning. That’s why we provide opportunities for practice-based coursework through our program at The Praxis Institute. This gives students the chance to apply what they learn in the classroom in a more professional setting. To complete courses, students must finish the required 540 hours of classwork and 60 hours of hands-on training before receiving their diploma.

Our Therapeutic Massage Technician program is a hybrid course, meaning classwork is completed both online and in person. While most of the regular bookwork is done through our online portion, students gain practical, hands-on experience during our in-person training sessions.

With our flexible scheduling, we make it easy for students to fit their education into their busy lifestyles. We also offer competitive pricing, allowing students to earn their diplomas affordably.

After completing our program, students must take the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB). Upon passing, they can apply for their Florida State License. Once graduates receive their massage therapy certification, they can begin working as licensed therapists.

We also provide other massage therapy courses, like our Advanced Massage program, for students who want to go further in their careers. Graduates find our programs help them achieve success in gaining entry-level jobs as massage therapists and related personnel.
