Teacher helps student learn how to complete a massage while student practices on client Applying to attend massage school can be a big step in your career. However, there are many considerations aspiring students should think about before enrolling in a program. Different programs can offer different benefits to students, like flexible scheduling and opportunities for financial aid. By doing your research and browsing your options, you can find a massage therapy program that works best with your needs.

The Praxis Institute offers a Therapeutic Massage program and an Advanced Massage program in the Miami area. Here, we suggest questions that students should ask before enrolling in massage school.

What Accreditations Does the Massage School Have?

When searching for massage schools, make sure to look for programs with the right accreditations. Accreditations are used to recognize certain schools as established, registered institutions. The Praxis Institute has picked up many accreditations over the years, including from the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) and the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).

How Long Does the Program Take?

The length of each massage program can vary depending on the state and institute requirements. This is because each state requires different hours of classroom instruction, and some institutes may require additional hours of training. To prepare for their courses and graduation, students should first find out how long the program takes to complete.

Our Advanced Massage Therapy program requires about 750 hours of classroom instruction, and students must complete 115 services that target different areas of the body. Our Therapeutic Massage Technician program requires about 540 hours of instruction and 60 completed services.

Are Courses Available Online?

Online courses can be ideal for busy students because they can be taken from anywhere, including the comfort of your own home. At The Praxis Institute, our massage courses are completed both online and in person, allowing students to gain knowledge through their coursework and apply that knowledge in a real setting.

Is the Class Schedule Flexible?

Choosing the right massage program starts with finding one that accommodates your lifestyle. This way, you can easily continue with work or family obligations. Our massage courses come with flexible scheduling, incorporating both online and in-person instruction to deliver quality education.

Do You Offer Career Support?

Programs that offer useful resources, like career support, can assist students post-graduation. They can help you with finding new job opportunities and making connections, as well as with preparing for job interviews and crafting a résumé. Students who enroll in our massage programs have access to our career services, which are dedicated to their success even after graduating.

Do You Offer Financial Aid?

The Praxis Institute helps qualifying students obtain federal student loans and grants through our financial aid office.

Does the Teaching Staff Have Real-World Experience?

Learning from experienced instructors can help students make the most out of their education. It allows them to use their teachers as a resource for finding success in the industry. When looking at massage school options, ensure you are learning from an experienced teaching staff with real-world backgrounds in massage. The instructors at The Praxis Institute are well-rounded, with extensive knowledge of different techniques, methods, and practices in medical massage and other fields.

What Degree Will You Earn?

Students should find out what kind of degree they can earn through the program. Different degrees can certify you to complete different tasks in the massage industry. Demonstrating your experience level following graduation can help you find a job.

After completing courses at The Praxis Institute, students earn their massage therapy certification by applying for their Florida State License. However, they must first take and pass the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) or the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB) exam (MBLEx). In addition, graduates of the Therapeutic Massage program earn a certification in Spa Therapies. Graduates of the Advanced Massage Therapy Program earn a certification in Deep Tissue, Spa Therapies, Rehabilitation (including Therapeutic Procedures and Hydrotherapy), Geriatric Massage, Modalities for Therapeutic Intervention (Electrotherapy, Ultrasound, Laser, and Infrared). In addition, pursuant to collaboration agreements that Praxis maintain with external partners, graduates of the Advanced Massage Therapy Program also obtain certification in   Neuromuscular Therapy (granted by International Academy of Neuromuscular Therapies), and Holistic manual lymphatic drainage (granted by Manual Lymph Drainage Institute International)
