What Is the Advanced Massage Therapy Program?
In this program, students participate in 750 hours of theoretical, practical, and clinical training in topics related to advanced therapeutic sports and clinical massage. They earn certification in multiple areas of massage therapy, such as electro-stimulation, spa therapies, and ultrasound. As part of the applied clinical training, students must conduct 115 massage services or more.
Students who complete 540 hours of coursework can sit for the board certification examination provided by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork — the most prestigious credential within the occupation. Students also may complete the licensing exam administered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards upon graduation.
Career Opportunities for Advanced Massage Program Graduates
After earning their diplomas from this program, students will meet the requirements to apply for a Florida State License. From there, they can begin their professional careers as entry-level massage therapists. The following are positions many students pursue after graduation:
- Retail massage therapist: Ideal for those just beginning their career in massage therapy, these positions open doors for future advancement and often provide flexible schedules.

What Is Massage Therapy Certification?
While the Therapeutic Massage certification covers many of the topics found in the Advanced Massage program, it does not provide the same amount of training. To earn certification, students must complete 540 hours of theoretical and practical coursework as opposed to 750 hours. Additionally, the massage therapy certification does not include the following courses:
- Deep tissue
- Neuromuscular therapy (NMT)
- Manual lymph drainage
- Clinical rehabilitation
The service component of the certification program is also different. Instead of the minimum of 115 massage services, students must perform 60 or more as part of their applied clinical training. Some services are left out, as well, including deep tissue massage, NMT massage, sports massage, and pathology.

Although the Therapeutic Massage certification features less training than the Advanced Massage program, graduates from both programs have many of the same job opportunities. Industries where those with a massage therapy certification may seek work include:
