At The Praxis Institute, we offer Advanced Massage and Therapeutic Massage diploma programs at our campuses in Miami and Hialeah, FL, and each equips students with distinct skills to pursue different jobs after graduation. What Is the Advanced Massage Therapy Program? In this program, students participate in 750 hours of theoretical, practical, and clinical training in topics related to advanced therapeutic sports and clinical massage. They earn certification in multiple areas of massage therapy, such as electro-stimulation, spa therapies, and ultrasound. As part of the applied clinical training, students must conduct 115 massage services or more.Students who complete 540 hours of coursework can sit for the board certification examination provided by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork \u2014 the most prestigious credential within the occupation. Students also may complete the licensing exam administered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards upon graduation.Career Opportunities for Advanced Massage Program GraduatesAfter earning their diplomas from this program, students will meet the requirements to apply for a Florida State License. From there, they can begin their professional careers as entry-level massage therapists. The following are positions many students pursue after graduation:Retail massage therapist: Ideal for those just beginning their career in massage therapy, these positions open doors for future advancement and often provide flexible schedules.Medical massage therapist: These professionals work in clinics, long-term care facilities, and chiropractic offices providing services to patients.Hospitality massage therapist: Those who desire more excitement in their work may consider working in a resort or on a cruise trip traveling around the world.Spa owner: Individuals who open private practices have the privilege of setting their own hours and building a unique brand.Athletic trainer: Massage therapists interested in sports may work with athletes, strengthening their muscles, bones, and joints and offering guidance on injury prevention. What Is Massage Therapy Certification? While the Therapeutic Massage certification covers many of the topics found in the Advanced Massage program, it does not provide the same amount of training. To earn certification, students must complete 540 hours of theoretical and practical coursework as opposed to 750 hours. Additionally, the massage therapy certification does not include the following courses:Deep tissueNeuromuscular therapy (NMT)Manual lymph drainageClinical rehabilitationThe service component of the certification program is also different. Instead of the minimum of 115 massage services, students must perform 60 or more as part of their applied clinical training. Some services are left out, as well, including deep tissue massage, NMT massage, sports massage, and pathology.Career Opportunities for Therapeutic Massage Program GraduatesAlthough the Therapeutic Massage certification features less training than the Advanced Massage program, graduates from both programs have many of the same job opportunities. Industries where those with a massage therapy certification may seek work include:Spas and salons: Working in these conventional massage therapy settings enables people to put into practice their training with numerous services.Hotels and resorts: Accommodations often have spas to promote a more relaxing and luxurious vacation for guests.Hospitals and clinics: Many healthcare professionals recognize how beneficial massage therapy is for patients. As a result, more medical facilities offer on-site massage therapy.Gyms: Massages can be integral for helping people relax after a rigorous workout. Gyms and health clubs may seek the talent of massage therapists to augment services for their members.Self-employed: Opening a private practice gives massage therapists the freedom to make customized schedules and tailor their efforts to specific services.Beauty schools and similar institutions: Students may take their training back to the classroom and clinic to instruct others in the various aspects of massage therapy.Explore the Massage Therapy Programs at The Praxis InstituteWhether you wish to pursue the Advanced Massage or Therapeutic Massage program, you will find exceptional benefits by enrolling at The Praxis Institute.
