Elisa’s journey began with her best friend, an Olympic Martial Artist, graduating massage therapy college together. Soon after she met, surgeon, Robert Lerner, M.D. “The Pioneer of Lymphedema Treatment,” who offered Elisa an F/T position as MLD Specialist, Certified garment & orthotic fitter and Clinic Day instructor for Lerner’s Academy. The famous clinic was the on the clinic day tour for several MLD schools that demonstrated a functioning MLD specialty clinic and became the model for others designed after it by the doctors and therapists who visited it.
Shortly after and with Dr. Lerner’s prompting to pursue her education, Elisa became Clinic Director upon completing a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy and partnered with universities to conduct and publish research. With evidence-based research, she became an insurance consultant and performed physician in-services. She became a sought after public educator on the radio, at American Cancer Society events and through her monthly column at Boomer Times. Always the patient advocate, Elisa established the “Tony DiFalco, Sr.” Grant to help patients that did not have insurance to receive treatment and purchase necessary self-care tools for successful outcomes.
For 25 years Elisa has been a leading educator for LMT, OT & PT serving on several college Medical Advisory Boards and Guest Lecturer. Her International MLD Certification program is hosted on college campuses and is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the first Bi-lingual MLD Certification program on a college campus in the U.S. located in Miami, FL.
On the campus or at convention, she has been a presenter at World Massage Festival, AMTA, FSMTA, Premiere Day Spa Show, Florida Occupational Therapy Association, Vyne Education, Elite, CSFA National Conference, Mid-West International Spa & Salon, Florida Association of Health Care Givers CNA’s to name a few.
Today, Elisa and her medical advisory board’s focus is on teaching about expanding MLD markets working with professional athletes and the NFL, cosmetic surgery MLD, pregnancy, pediatrics, and autoimmune anomalies. Her courses cover the latest research revelations designed to pass the torch of knowledge to the next generation for future lymphatic breakthroughs—the next big story!
